What's the Best WYSIWYG Editor? 1 Year ago
I currently use FCKEditor. It's gotten great reviews, and it's certainly better than the standard offered in the Joomla core, but I heard in last week's presentation about JCE Editor, and I believe Morris had a suggestion as well.

What do members of JoomlaChicago recommend as your favorite WYSIWYG editor?

Hit "Reply" and post your thoughts please.

I use JCE editor on all my sites, but I think its time to give FCKEditor another view.

I made JCE Editor my preferred editor over a year ago due to its image handling abilities.

I too am interested in others opinions and reasons for using different editors.

Yes sir,I use JoomlaFCK2 the second version is better.

From joomla.org site:
...... Detailed Overview ......

joomlafck2 is another Joomla implementation of the FCKeditor. This time version 2.5 Beta. This new implementation comes ready configured and working for Joomla, you should not need to edit any files by hand.

* Allows easy creation of up to 3 editor templates in the mambot configuration page.
* Create internal Joomla content item links using the new toolbar button and dialog which filters by section and/or category.
* Simple image, flash and file linking using the browser functionality ready configured for Joomla.
* FCK image, flash and file uploading functionality ready configured for Joomla.
* Image Manager plugin which allows image browsing preview, editing (resize, crop etc) and uploading.

You can customize the following from the mambot configuration page:

* Editor toolbar icons and skin
* Editor language
* Editor templates
* Editor area CSS
* Text direction
* Browser and Uploader default paths
* Enter key behaviour
* Conversion of special characters

We have also removed all the unused files that the other implementation of this editor for Joomla include. This implementation also includes extra security code in the editor backend browser/uploader code that checks to make sure the user is logged into Joomla.

get it from: fck2

or as a part of a package from a really good backend admin theme/template: minted One-point-five

We use JCE quite happily, but I'm interested in trying FCK. They both get very good reviews, and both are stable. Based on the comments people leave, it sounds like if you plan to use a lot of Flash, FCK will make that easier. You can't go wrong either way.

After using every conceivable editor available I have settled on only 1 that I swear by. XHTMLsuite is the only editor for me. It's is by far the absolute most stable editor I have every seen for Joomla. I HIGHLY recommend if. It is a commercial component but it is well worth the money to have something that works and doesn't break.

Does XHTMLSuite offer any kind of demo or trial download? We have been using fck in Joomla and other projects for years - if your not afraid to dive into the fck config files there are many options for customizing it but my one complaint with it is the ability to easily link to other pages from within the content. This can be super tricky if using any kind of SEO extensions.

Not sure if there is a demo. But I swear that it's the best I've ever used for the past 3 years.

but my one complaint with it is the ability to easily _link_ to other pages from within the content. This can be super tricky if using any kind of SEO extensions.

I've never had a problem with it. It allows me to do anything that I need to do.

Blue sky question: Does anyone have experience with wysiwygpro 3?

I'm curious because it's supplied by www.vizimetrics.com down in Georgia, which in Joomla geography is practically a suburb of Chicago . . . .

I've heard that wysiwygpro 3 is good. But I hear that it has a lot of files to install.

I have tried quite a number of editors - then I tried JCE editor.

I think it is the best. The latest version (1.1.8) rocks. The extended image manage plugin has a huge number of capabilities including image pop ups from thumbnails or in a gallery. It is easy to embed multi-media, docman links, etc...

I haven't tried it yet, but they have a template manager (not a Joomla Template). If you create a number of items/pages and want a same layout for an article, you can save it as a template (lots of hours saved).

I'd suggest trying it.

WYSIWYG PRO has been the best for me so far. http://www.wysiwygpro.com/

I used JCE and always had problems with my SEO engine. Along with that, the page times are way to long. WYSIWYG PRO loads in the fraction that JCE does. I used FCK as well and it didn't hold a torch close to it. WYSIWYG PRO isn't free but its we'll worth its wieght in gold. I highly recommend it.

Re:What's the Best WYSIWYG Editor? 11 Months ago
In my company I have supported a ton of customers and seen a lot of them use a lot of different editors.
I had hear good things about wysiwygpro 3. However, in supporting my own customers and fixing existing sites I have seen that there are a few times that wysiwygpro 3 has had conflicts with various Joomla extensions. It has javascript conflicts with a lot of components and modules that also use java scripts within their extensions. Just my observation.

I use XHTMLsuite as my editor of choice because of it's maturity, stability, features, support and the fact that I have NEVER seen it conflict with another extension so far.

We actually use it on JoomlaChicago.com and as far as I know nobody has reported any issues with it.

I must say, I have preferred using XHTMLsuite over FCK from a use standpoint.

I had no idea that WSIWYG's had so much to do with the way the site loads, etc. Fascinating!

Do any of these wysiwig editors add captions to images?

When I add an image using JCE, I can't use the image caption part of core joomla. Any suggestions on adding image captions.
