bringing together musicians, agencies, bars, festivals 10 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I'm working on the website for my non-profit Blues organization and I'm looking for an extension through which I can achive the following:

The goal is to create a very active online community connecting the interests of the musicians, bars, festivals, booking agencies and last but not least the blues lover who's attending the live concerts.

Therefore, a member area for each of the above mentioned "groups" needs to be created.

Imagine the following scenario:

A bar owner hears a song, buys a CD, etc. of an artist and he's really interested in booking him/her. So, he contacts the agencies he usually works with and asks about this musician. As it might not be a well known artist, he's being told by all he's agencies that they don't have the artist on the list to be booked.

A few months later, another bar owner might ask around for the same artist. Not surprisingly, the agencies come up with the same answer. Another month later, anothter bar owner, same story.

Now here comes part of my idea:

The bar owners can create a "wish list" which can be viewed by every registered bar owner. For whichever artist that's on this list they're interested to book at their place as well, they can vote for it. (...or add a musician that's not on the list yet...)

Now, 2nd part of the idea:

Every registered agency can review the votes for the musicians incl. what bar is interested in booking him. So over time, all of a sudden a not well known artist shows with 7, 8, 9 or more votes, which means it is now interesting for an agency to look into booking this artist as he already has 7 or more gigs lined up.

Another part of the idea:

A blues lover can also post a band that he would really love to see live in concert. Now, if a bar owner likes that band too, he can basically copy it into the "owner's wishlist"....

Going further with the idea:

- Agencies can post the artists and dates for which they are available. Bar owner can just click "interested" enter the date he wants to book and hit enter. The bar's profile (contact info etc.) will automatically transmitted to the agency.
- Bands/musicians can post their availability
> scenario: a musician has to cancel a gig short notice (i.e. sick, death in family, etc.) >> bar owner can login to the website and can check which band would be available to fit in.
- had a bad expierence with a festival, bar, agency? Let people know, so the musicians can avoid being screwed by the few "black sheeps"
- possibility for blues lover to post comment for any concert they visited
- etc.
- etc.
- etc. ....

Could this be realized with a Combination of Community Builder and FireBoard?

Thanks in advance for any input!!!

I think CB + Fireboard would do the trick! (Do others agree?)

Is there an aspect of your site that would compile input from the audience? For instance, when an act comes to town that I happen to have seen before and I know it is just freakin' awesome, I wish there was a way to put my 2 cents in (add it to the bottom of the Reader notice or whatever) and say "Don't miss this!"

BTW, Group Jive might be used to form closed groups, but it sounds like what you're trying to accomplish depends on getting lots of oxygen around these opinions, so better to leave it open?

This sounds like a fun project.

There are a lot of pieces to absorb.

It sounds like several components could be combined together.
Joe mentioned GroupJive, CB, and Fireboard and I agree these may help fit some of the tasks. These all integrate.

If could also include music video's with the Seyret component. This component also ties into CB.

Also for calendaring there is a fantastic component called Link: gigcalendar. It appears that this was developed for bands and concerts. This project has slowed down though.

The following is cut froom joomla.org:
gigCalendar is the world's first free solution for maintaining a website's touring calendar. Maintaining a calendar for event promotion on the Internet has never been easier - or cheaper! gigCalendar is an events calendar that is tailored for musicians, producers, venues, bands and artists but it also can easily be used as an events calendar for ANYTHING! You will find help docs, a support forum and all general info about the project at the gigCalendar website: http://gigCalendar.net Features: * multiple bands and multiple venues ...

Another component called:
gigCalendar Addon FrontEnd
If you like gigCalendar you will love this addon you need the gigCalendar component to use it. What this Component does: -The user can Add Gigs -The user can Add Venues -The user can Add Bands -The user can Add Categories -The user can edit is items -You can list all the Bands -You can list all the Venues -Auto Aprove new items -You can recibe and email of new items -You can create music Genres -And more. Note: you need gigCalendar component to use this component.

Also ....

Thanks for yall input!

to JTScarry
Is there an aspect of your site that would compile input from the audience?
Most definately! Probably by using a add-on for comments and access to part of the forum.
Any other ideas? Input is always welcome...

This sounds like a fun project. It sure is, but it is also lots of work.
(volunteers are always welcome... )

If could also include music video's with the Seyret component. This component also ties into CB.This component looks pretty interesting and could quite possibly come in handy... Thanks for the hint!

Also for calendaring there is a fantastic component called _link_: gigcalendar.I have tested the gigcalendar. Unfortunately, it does not support categories/subcategories. Also, if there are no datas entered in various fields (i.e. city, address, etc.) it would still show the field name; that just simply looks ugly and I don't have the php-skills to change this.

At this point, I'm using JCal in its "multiple calendars hack" (see http://dev.anything-digital.com/Forum/Feature-Requests/62-Multiple-Calendars-One-Site/Page-3.html)
It's not a perfect match for my needs, but I can make it work with some workarounds.

Mosets Tree is a directory extension for Joomla!. As Dirt Road Blues is a non-profit organzation, I would - at this point - rather use SOBI2 (http://www.sigsiu.net/) which is available for free.
For now, I have organized the artists by carefully defining sections+categories and displaying it with a "List-Content Section Menu"
