hi! very new user 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
my name is jamie, i'm 28, a graphic designer just getting into web design (and it's proving to be waaaway more fun than plain graphic design). i live in milwaukee, and i'll be in scotland for the summer on a work retreat sort of thing - kind of a vacation, but telecommuting also. i'm looking for any kind of web internships available in edinburgh as i'd like to gain some experience in the industry over my summer.
i worked as a designer at a toy company for a number of years, and currently work for a nonprofit doing all their design work and web stuff. my current job among other things is project manager for a full website for teens, which is what led me to joomla. at the toy company, i was the content manager for their websites, which were outsourced and built in typo 3 and xcart (an e-commerce csm) - i had such a great experience working with the company who built our websites, i decided to go back to school for a web certificate and maybe work for them in the future. i'd had basic html experience from years ago when there was *only* html, and i liked writing it quite a lot, so when i ran into problems updating things on my work's website i thought, if i knew more about the back end programming in this program, i wouldn't have to keep contacting the developers and wasting their time on little things! and, here i am now.
the youth site is going to be updated by a few specific people with no web knowledge so i recognised the importance of doing it in a csm from the get-go, and a little searching turned up joomla - i was attracted because the fanbase is so large, everyone who is involved is so enthusiastic and dedicated to the cause, and i love the idea of open source. kind of the programming version of the free market
i look forward to working with the program, and coming back to the forums (probably many times for tips, help and suggestions.
i was at the joomla expo this weekend, it was a total blast! i can't wait for the next one!
jamie

ps: here is my very basic website..i just did it for my html/css class. www.redkettledesign.com
some basic stuff is there, but most of the portfolio images need to be changed/updated. still, i just got it done today so it's kind of exciting.

Jamie,

Glad you joined us at EXPO! We had a blast. RedKettle is very cool. Hope all's going well. Hey, I hear a new MKE Forum is gearing up right now!

One of our presenters at Expo, Victor Drover, is leading it. GREAT GUY.
