The 22nd floor of the Ogilvie Building in Chicago's Loop is getting to be one popular destination during lunch hour on the second Wednesday of every month. Sure, the free lunch is nice, but most folks would agree, the reason this group is so popular is 1) there's valuable information being shared among members who are hungry to learn more about Joomla; and 2) we're a hell of a lot of fun.
JoomlaChicago was formed in October, 2007, a free service of the CMS Association. Our first meeting was right before Thanksgiving, on November 14, 2007. Membership started out strong, with 24 attendees at our first meeting, and has grown ever since. In fact, the CMS Association itself was formed in order to have a formal entity to take responsibility for this and other groups taking shape here and in other parts of the world.
While some folks attend "user group" meetings, that is a rather 1980's myopic view of what's really going on. The interest in open source CMS solutions such as Joomla is far bigger than "user" interest. That's why we think of this as a "community software group," for anyone connected to developing and architecting the software, content creation, managegement, business applications and beyond.
Our community includes programmers, but goes far beyond the typical "user group" - we involve writers, graphic artists, photographers, multimedia producers, innovators and entrepreneurs. Yes, we even welcome consultants. ;)
If you'd like to get involved in JoomlaChicago, either online or live at our monthly meetings, we invite you to take the first step and register today. Let's come together and "stay in the Loop" on Joomla!

Legal Mumbo Jumbo: The CMS Association provides organizational support for community software groups such as JoomlaChicago, as well as interactive learning conferences such as JoomlaEXPO. JoomlaChicago is an "official" Software Community Group of the CMS Association. Neither are directly affiliated with Open Source Matters Inc (OSM). New York, NY-based OSM claims ownership of the Joomla (Joomla!) trademark. Joomla! (TM) is open source software, licensed under the GPL license.
