CHICAGO: Joomla has officially landed in Chicago - with a splash. With 16 attendees, and a starting membership roster of 37 area professionals and enthusiasts, the first-ever Joomla! User Group has officially launched. Now the real fun begins. JoomlaChicago joins dozens of sister groups from around the globe, forming right now to give that human-touch element that's much-needed (and often overlooked) to truly empower folks to achieve more than we can do alone, using an Open Source Content Management software program called Joomla! User Group has officially launched. Now the real fun begins. JoomlaChicago joins dozens of sister groups from around the globe, forming right now to give that human-touch element that's much-needed (and often overlooked) to truly empower folks to achieve more than we can do alone, using an Open Source Content Management software program called Joomla! JoomlaChicago's Members look forward to free and open exchange, not only here in Chicagoland, but with our sister groups across the country and around the globe. If you're with another User Group, be sure to sign on as an Associate Member to receive our regular updates, participate in our upcoming Member Forum and even stop in for a visit. Thanks go out to the good folks at The Acquity Group for being the first major technology firm to back this upstart group to lead the way here in the Midwest. Acquity offered not only their location, but provided several key personnel to offer valuable insights, lending further credibility to this movement. Joomla is already embraced by many - from small businesses to corporate clientele; from health care to education and alumni relations; from government to non-profit solutions. The key is, we at JoomlaChicago need to help Joomla move from damn good to incredibly great. If Joomla were a Hollywood "it" girl, Joomla would be Angelina Jolie. Below is a list of folks who attended our first JoomlaChicago meeting on Wednesday, November 14th. Our meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, starting at noon, at the offices of the Acquity Group, 500 West Madison Street, Suite 2200 - an incredible space with a picture-perfect view of the Loop. It could not be better. As discussed, meetings will be solutions-driven, to make the best use of everyone's time. As dictated by need and growth of the membership base, Interest Groups may be considered, to cover specific areas of interest (i.e. best practices, specific Joomla extensions and applications, user interface and graphic design, writing, Joomla 101, and more). They say "a rising tide raises all boats;" well, all I can say is, if you live near the shores of Lake Michigan, you may want to buy flood insurance. ;) November's Group Launch Attendees Included: Mark Cochran Questions?
