Evening training sessions 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I am very seriously considering the idea of putting on some Joomla 2hr weekly training sessions in the evenings. These classes would need to be in the southwest suburbs as I live in Joliet. I'm thinking the Naperville, Plainfield, Joliet, Bolingbrook surrounding areas. The only thing that's holding me back from this is a location. If anyone knows of any locations we could use then please send me a private message on the site from my profile.

I am thinking along these lines.

Beginner classes would run for 6 weeks (1 night per week)

Intermediate classes would run for 6-8 weeks (1-2 nights per week)

Advanced classes would run for 6-8 weeks (1-2 nights per week)

Beginner classes would be very cost effective. Intermediate classes would cost slightly more. And the advanced classes would cost obviously more. We would keep these courses as resonable as possible. Certificates of completion would be given at the end of each course and handouts, software, etc would be included. If someone wishes to take all 3 levels of all the courses then they would receive a Mastery Certificate at the end of the course. The advanced course would also have possibly 3 levels on it's own also (Advanced 100, Advanced 200, Advanced 300)

Please let me know the interest. We would keep these classes to a maximum of 15-20 people so that we can give the students the attention that is needed.

We've got the whole year scheduled out. Mike, can you post it here?

Also, if anyone wants to help present, or be part of an expert panel for one or more of the sessions, let Mike know! Post it here!

I'm in the same area as you and I'd be interested, pending the cost and timing, of course.

Mike,

Has this training idea gone anywhere yet? I used to work for a consulting firm in Skokie, but of course, that's the NW suburbs, not the SW. They had a good training room, but not sure if they'd rent it out or not.

Have you considered GoToMeeting or something like it to run an Online training course? It might be more beneficial, it could be recorded and made available to attendees, and it could be built into the cost of the training. You would not need individual computers or a computer lab to do the training.

If someone else wrote the training material, I'd be willing to get up to speed on some of it and be one of the teachers for the classes in the beginner area. I've got about 5 years of training experience for IT products. I just need time to learn the topic I'd teach if I don't know it already.

I'd also be interested in attending some of the intermediate and advanced classes.

There are already Joomla video tutorials online (www.joomlatutorials.com). IMHO gotomeeting.com is a better option, it'll keep the cost down and allow recording for further review.

Interesting that JoomlaTutorials buys their tutorials from Demoplaza.com. I've seen them for sale on Demo Plaza already. You can buy them and have your "brand" put on the tutorials. They just didn't pay the extra $15 to remove the demoplaza.com logo at the end of the tutorial.

Not all of them may be purchased, but at least the few I looked at were purchased from demoplaza.

Hey, not knocking the demos. I've been looking at doing something similar with a site I'm helping to build. Use their tutorials as content in our site (purchased obviously) while we develop our own tutorial sets or expand upon their sets. That way, we get content in our site quicker, which lets us work on more content beyond the beginner tutorials.

Thanks for the link.

Hi there, has this idea moved forward? I work near Ohear and live in the down town area so these suggested location would not really work for myself. I am looking for some training on based site development. Any suggestions would be great.
