November 07 General Meeting - Recap 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
Thank you to all the folks who came out to help launch JoomlaChicago. We learned a lot in 90 minutes, getting our feet wet, introducing ourselves, and discussing a bit about the overall vision and direction of the group.

Not many folks brought lunch, so, good news - NEXT meeting, we'll have a SPONSOR who will be bringing lunch in - on the house! Thank you, ARC Technology Group for extending this great offer. Members are encouraged to ask others to join them for "laptop and lunch" at noon in December. Thank you to Joe Scarry, from ARC Technology Group, for offering to pick up the tab on this.

Meeting Recap and Results:

Strategic:
1. The Mission: Empower our members through the mastery of Joomla! solutions.
2. Primary Target Audience: Chicago area professionals, seeking to become more independent, productive and efficient by using Joomla! solutions for content management.
3. Build a strong social and professional network to support each other.
4. Consider one or more longer meetings to go into more depth.
5. The agenda for our meetings should be SOLUTIONS-driven.
6. Education is the primary purpose of the group, but we need to balance it out with fun and business opportunities as well.

Tactical:
1. After introductions and more strategic discussion, we dug into some actual sites using Joomla!, discussing how they were created, the benefits and limitations of Joomla!
2. Site build-out for JoomlaChicago: Member Philip DeKoker volunteered to head up the first phase of the build-out, to include a Member Forum (which I'm writing on now), as well as the Community Builder extension, which will enable further interactivity among Members.
3. Member Joe Scarry from ARC Technology Group volunteered to help with outside alliance opportunities.
4. The consensus felt our group should run a JoomlaDay Event in 2008 to bring in top developer/trainers and build credibility.
5. Initial discussion about a second monthly meeting on the 4th Wednesdays - with the 2nd Wednesday being a General meeting, and the 4th Wednesday being for planning and/or more specific applications. More discussion will follow on this.

How Can YOU Lend a Hand? (Many hands make light work):
1. To help with Alliances and Sponsors: contact Joe Scarry (ARC Technology Group)
2. To help with Site Build-out: contact Philip DeKoker (back-end) or John Coonen (ui design or writing)
3. For General Meeting Location: contact Steve Naughten (Acquity Group)
4. Seeking volunteers to help with developing our agenda for Educational Programming:
- > Joomla! Basics (installation and start-up)
- > Joomla! Advanced (content management)
- > Joomla! Developer (technical development and extension-building)
5. To help with Events such as JoomlaDay 2008 in Chicago and a possible March social event at the Irish American Heritage Center, contact: Warwick Greville
