Location for meetings - feedback? 10 Months ago
Hey folks,

Let me know if you're a fan of the downtown location. Any suggestions appreciated. Be honest.

It was pretty good location. Was was able to hoop on a train in naperville (that's 5 min from my office). And once I knew what streets where what I found my way. I'm a country boy, so coming down to the big city rough!

A western burbs meeting spot would rock!

Hi there,
I have not attended any meetings sofar as I am a member from the past 2 weeks. So take it for what it is worth.

I definitely would prefer some western burbs. If it has to be held in downtown, an evening time would be best as I work in the burbs and a noon start will take half a day off of work.

Chicago's a great spot for the meetings, for those who can do the lunch hour. Folks who work in the Loop can be in and out in an hour, or come early (11:30) for a "101" and even stay late (1:30) for networking and just to shoot the breeze.

That said, it'd be great to set up other Chicagoland groups too - I think the demand is out there. I'd be happy to come help anyone put on the first one or two, just to get ya started off. If nothing else, if nobody shows up but the 2 of us, I like 1:1 too - nice ratio!

(plus, there's more coffee for me that way too)

Hi there,

How about a Schaumburg as a 2nd location? I can look into possible venue etc. if needs be.

Re:Location for meetings - feedback? 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Whatever works for the group.

I'll put in a little plug - It'd be GREAT if we could do it somewhere else right CLOSE to the Chicago and NW line (walking distance). That way, we can build up a following of folks who can go anywhere along the train line, without a car, and walk there once they get off the train.

Arlington Heights/Palatine/Mount Prospect, etc.

That said, Schaumburg would be a great spot too - as would Naperville, to serve the western 'burbs - N'ville being the 2nd biggest city in Illinois, with a rather high concentration of IT folks to boot.

Re:Location for meetings - feedback? 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I am very seriously considering the idea of putting on some Joomla 2hr weekly training sessions in the evenings. These classes would need to be in the southwest suburbs as I live in Joliet. I'm thinking the Naperville, Plainfield, Joliet, Bolingbrook surrounding areas. The only thing that's holding me back from this is a location. If anyone knows of any locations we could use then please send me a private message on the site from my profile.

I am thinking along these lines.

Beginner classes would run for 6 weeks (1 night per week)

Intermediate classes would run for 6-8 weeks (1-2 nights per week)

Advanced classes would run for 6-8 weeks (1-2 nights per week)

Beginner classes would be very cost effective. Intermediate classes would cost slightly more. And the advanced classes would cost obviously more. We would keep these courses as resonable as possible. Certificates of completion would be given at the end of each course and handouts, software, etc would be included. If someone wishes to take all 3 levels of all the courses then they would receive a Mastery Certificate at the end of the course. The advanced course would also have possibly 3 levels on it's own also (Advanced 100, Advanced 200, Advanced 300)

Please let me know the interest. We would keep these classes to a maximum of 15-20 people so that we can give the students the attention that is needed.

I know you'll find interest, and I'll be the FIRST to promote it - just like all other business folks in here with a passion for Joomla!

I would ask, can we start a NEW thread with this particular question, so it's not confused with our JoomlaChicago meetings? This is business - which is a very good and necessary thing, but leaving it here might confuse folks with our monthly meetings.

I think the downtown area is the best location for the primary meetings.

A primary meeting in the northern suburbs would isolate the southern suburbs folks
A primary meeting in the southern suburbs would isolate the northern suburbs folks.

Sister group meetings could be easily setup throughout the Chicago area with 2 or more folks

Agree, Philip. Our Loop location is ongoing - every 2nd Wednesday. What I'd like to do is see whether other folks want to try setting up their own meeting(s) in their neck of the woods, at an alternate time.

I used to be able to go to the Downtown meetings but sadly I am now unable to (due to the job rellocation)
But since I am going to be closer to the Schaumburg area I second the motion for a Schaumberg user group.

The downtown location is nice. I'm alway up for a trip downtown. I have to drive in from the burbs. Any cheap places to park?

I'm out of the South Suburbs. I wouldn't mind having a meeting (evening or weekend) once in a while in that neck of the woods. I might be able to get a meeting room down there. I wouldn't mind holding it in different locations. I'm guessing that we have a regionally diverse group. It might be nice to mix it up from time to time.

We're definitely keeping a STANDING meeting on the 2nd Wednesday, 11:30 - 1:30 at Acquity Group, but at any time, if someone wants to run one anywhere else in the Chicago area, feel free to set it up and promote it here on the JoomlaChicago site!

I'd be happy to come to any of them too...any help you need, if I can be there, I will.
