Looking for a little help 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hello Joomla Chicago,

I am new to the world of Joomla and I am trying to teach myself the how to part of building and running a small site. I work out near Ohear and live in the downtown area. The groups meetings have been a little hard for me to make so I though I would make this posting.

I would hope to meet up with someone or a small group that is open to teaching a newbie. I am interested in site design/template design. I like some of the free and paid templates but I am also interested to change them just a little (ie, a column size, or user block location).

If you are open to make a friend and be a teacher please drop me a line.

We have a lot of tutorials in our Learning Center. I think that this would be a great place for you to start if you are looking to learn the basics of Joomla. You must be logged into the website in order to view the tutorials and the link is in the top menu bar.
Regards,
Mike Carson

Hello Mike,

Thank you for the suggestion of the very cool short training videos. I have a basic understanding of most of these items but what I am really looking to learn is how to write a new template or to take a template and move the module position and sizes, or add a new module position.

Does this explain what I am looking for? Are these topics covered these learning sessions?

Thanks,
Darrin

This would be more of what you would learn in a live training environment. This type of thing would not be covered in the learning Center as it is way more complicated and requires code manipulation to do so. I can tell you that if you attent the CMS Expo in December you will learn this very thing in one of the sessions that is geared just for templates.

There will be some upcoming live training sessions in the Chicagoland area that are also going to cover some more in deapth training topics and they will be full day live classroom training available from www.joomlearn.com so keep posted for that site to be launched very soon.
